Math Blog Challenge Day 1

Remember to solve and explain in complete sentences, and answer on Blog! 


Katie went to the movies. Katie had 4 quarters, 6 dimes, 7 nickels and 11 pennies. It cost 177 cents to buy a box of candy. Did Katie have enough change to buy a box of candy? How much did she have left over? Solve and explain in complete sentences! 

1st correct answer earns 5 points!
All other correct answers earn 3 points.
Any incorrect attempts earn 1 point!

  5. Yes, Katie had enough money to buy the box of candy. Katie had 29 cents left over. I added each set of coins without my fingers (100 + 60 + 35 + 11 = 206) I counted backwards to get my final answer 29 cents. Haleigh

  8. No, Katie did not have enough money. I know this because I used the number line and I subtracted 89-57 and I got 31 cents as my answer.
