Week 2 is in the books, bring on week 3!

We had a good 2nd week, got some important routines in place and began some of our academic lessons. I still have a few pre-assessments that I need to refine, and some of us are still struggling with following the routines, but we'll be seamless soon! Monday we are getting a few new friends, which will round our group out nicely. We'll have 25 students: 12 girls and 13 boys.

This week is our first week for homework. I'll put the homework in the blue communication folders Monday and not look at it again until NEXT Monday. The math focus for homework this week is "Fact Families".

       EX:       317            2 addition sentences
                               2 subtraction sentences
            186        503     Must use all 3 numbers
                  317 +  186  =  503
                  186  +  317 =  503
                   503  -  317 =  186
                   503  - 186  =  317

There will not be missing numbers this week because the point of this activity is for the students to see the relationship between 3 numbers and the relationship between addition and subtraction. There will be spelling homework, reading log/AR reading, and writing response questions in a writing journal/composition notebook.  On Fridays we will have our spelling test, a fast facts quiz and a math focus quiz.

Wednesday is our 1st field trip. I sent home the note from the lunch ladies Friday, so you can order the lunch that your child would most likely eat. If you choose lunch from home, please mark that on the sheet and return it to me Monday. If you are sending lunches from home, please send them in a gallon sized zip-lock bag with your child's name on it. No candy or pop/soda/cokes. We will only be given 20 minutes to eat.

We will be wearing our "1st day of school" shirts, the polka dot shirts that I gave out when we 1st met. Our 2nd grade t-shirts have not been ordered yet as we are waiting for more orders from some of the students. Please get them in if you have not already done so!
